Gruff Ricardo La Volpe didn’t last long in Costa Rica. Less than a year after arriving with big plans to revive the Ticos, the Argentine quit the nationalteam.

“When I got here, I talked of a project … of building a new national team,” the 59-year-old La Volpe said. “What for me is the most difficult thing, an understanding with thelocally based players, has become complicated.”

The former Mexico national team coach signed a $600,000-a-year contract in Sept. 2010, but Costa Rica won just four of 17 games during hisreign.
