Veteran Premier League and FIFA referee Howard Webb was hired by the Professional Referees Organization (PRO) last February to oversee the testing and implementation of the Video AssistantReferee system (VAR) in Major League Soccer. MLS began using VAR in league matches after the All-Star Game and has continued the project in the playoffs.
