[MLS TRANSACTIONS] Toronto FC is a team in need of help all over the field, and it thinks it has found some in Brazilian veteran Julio Cesar, who spent the last two seasons with Sporting Kansas City. Canada will be the 12th country in which Julio Cesar has played.

Julio Cesar, 34, made 54 appearanceswith 50 game starts and scored three goals in all regular season appearances. He also made four playoff appearances during the 2011 and 2012 MLS Playoffs for the team.

“It’simportant that Toronto FC becomes a more difficult team to play against this year,” said Toronto FC President and General Manager Kevin Payne. “JulioCesar will be an important part of the backbone of our team in the middle of the field. He’s a tough, experienced, committed player who was a big part of Sporting Kansas City’s successover the past two years, and we’re very pleased he will be a part of TFC this season.”

Julio Cesar has been a veritable globetrotter, spending time with teams in Honduras,Spain, Italy, Portugal, Austria, England, Mexico, Greece, Romania and Turkey in addition to the United States and now Canada. The early part of his career included stints at Real Madrid, AC Milan andBenfica.

Amazingly, he never played in Brazil. He debuted for Honduran club Marathon at the age of 16 and moved to Europe a year later.
