Javier Tebas, president of Spain’s La Liga, added his name to the list of those who don’t believe FIFA’s current path — electing a new president from withinits current ranks of senior politicians — will work. “If there is to be a cultural change, it can’t be carried out by people that have held roles within this system,” Tebas said onThursday. “I think there are people within soccer that can change this, but the president of the Asian confederation [Bahrain’s Shaikh Salman] or[Michel] Platini, who have been in this system can’t change it to one of transparency.” Shaikh Salman has emerged as a possible successor to FIFApresident Sepp Blatter if Platini, who is suspended, cannot run. Tebas has had a long-running battle with Miguel Angel Villar Llona, the president of the Spanish federation who is under investigation by FIFA.
