Landon Donovan hailed the impact of veteran USA striker Abby Wambach during the U.S. women’s 2-0 win against Germany in the Women’s World Cup semifinal on Tuesday, but healso took the opportunity to launch a thinly veiled dig at U.S. men’s coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who famously decided not to take Donovan to the 2014 World Cup. “Love the enthusiasm andveteran presence of @AbbyWambach despite not playing much. That kind of leadership is priceless during a WC,” Donovan tweeted. Fox analyst and former U.S.national team defender Alexi Lalas later responded to Donovan with the following direct tweet: “Agreed. @J_Klinsmann should have taken @AbbyWambach.”

  1. Are we really going to have to listen to Donovan whine for the next 20 years? Just get over it.

  2. I’m not a big fan of Lalas but I have to admit that was a great respons to Donova’s jab at JK.
