[CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE] Down 2-0 after an hour and needing three goals to win, Monterrey pulled off a miraculous comeback for a 4-2 win over Herculez Gomez‘s Santos that gave it its third straight Concacaf Champions League title and a berth in the FIFA Club World Cup later this year in Morocco.

Santos looked to be cruising to the title with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Colombian Carlos Quintero and Panamanian Felipe Baloy but it all fell apart in the last 30 minutes after Gomez came on.

Aldo de Nigris cut the deficit to 2-1, Argentine Neri Cardozo tied the score in the 84th minute, taking advantage of Santos’ failure to clear the ball and sneaking his shot past veteran Mexican keeper Oswaldo Sanchez.

De Nigris put the Rayados ahead three minutes later with a header and Chilean Humberto Suazoscored into an empty net in stoppage time to clinch the win.

Monterrey is the first team to win three Concacaf titles in a row since Mexico’s Cruz Azul won the old Concacaf Champions Cupin 1969-71.
