[AKRON-INDIANA MEN] Top-ranked Akron got goals in a two-minute span from Michael Nanchoff and Jamaican freshman Darren Mattocks and held on to beat Indiana, 2-1, before 3,225 fans and move into the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division IMen’s Tournament against North Carolina.
The Zips (20-1-1) advanced to the final eight for the second year in a row and will face California (14-2-3) Saturday. The Golden Bears defeatedBrown, 2-0, in their third-round match Sunday.
Mattocks, who set up Nanchoff’s goal with a give and go, has six goals and two assists in his last four games.
The Hoosiers cutthe lead in half in the 82nd minute when Andy Adlard notched his seventh goal of the campaign.
Akron extended its home unbeaten streak to 38 games(37 wins and a tie), which matches Indiana (1982-85) for the second-longest run in NCAA history.
It has now won 27 straight matches at home, dating back to the 2008 season, which matchesanother Indiana team (1996-99) for the third-longest such streak in NCAA history.
