Major League Soccer announced a new and ambitious broadcast venture with Apple.
They are calling it Sunday Night Soccer, an enhanced (read: bigger, more expensive, highly promoted) presentation that will feature the league’s top broadcast team Taylor Twellman, Jake Zivin and Andrew Wiebe. These games will be, “our marquee game of the week, highlighting the biggest matchups, rivalries and must-watch game in English,” says Ignacio Garcia, the league’s Senior V.P. and Executive Producer of MLS Season Pass. This, as in most of the MLS productions, will be on Apple’s MLS Season Pass.
It’s my understanding these games will not be flexed. In other words, the schedule would not be changed two or three weeks in advance to get the hottest, most attractive current matchup. They will apparently take their chances using the schedule made before the season begins. With so many games already scheduled, for MLS, Leagues Cup and the U.S. Open Cup, it’s understandable in year one of this venture that they don’t get too complicated.
