In general, Major League Soccer is known for being a league that gives head coaches and players a good amount of slack. Unlike most soccer leagues throughout the world, in MLS, there is no threat of relegation and parity reigns supreme, so owners can overlook short-term failures to hope for long-term success. 

But with more eyes and more money getting injected into the league, owners are starting to reign in some of their proverbial leashes. Just this offseason, 11 teams replaced their head coaches for new faces. Even with that high level of turnover, there are still a number of coaches who might be starting to sweat as the season approaches.

Let’s take a look at the coaches on the hot seat:

Caleb Porter (New England)

Last year was a disaster for the New England Revolution, no questions about it. This team was loaded with high-caliber talent and veteran experience, but it couldn’t get anything going throughout the season. The backline that had been one of the best in the league under Bruce Arena stopped as much as an open door and the DP-and-U22-laden attack couldn’t consistently score goals.
