As Major League Soccer opens its 30th season later this month, we should be reminded how much television and all of media have changed since this league first went on the air in 1996.

Farther back in the middle of the 20th century, television tried to be everything to everybody. In the last quarter of the century, specialization came along, due mostly to technology, which then led to changing consumer trends.

As MLS and Apple TV enter the third year of their 10-year partnership, it feels like they are in some ways going back to the old days, trying to be everything to everybody. Again, that is mostly thanks to technology and to consumer trends, some of which Apple and the league have introduced to the audience. It is also true that they need to reach audiences where they are, recognizing who they are. This league has an audience that is a bit younger, more diverse, more tech-savvy.

What MLS Season Pass is doing in 2025 is ambitious and it requires talent. Lots of talent. In addition to the scores of people behind the scenes, MLS Season Pass will have more than 70 people in front of the camera, either calling matches or doing studio shows or insider reports.

Ignacio Garcia, Major League Soccer SVP and Executive Producer, is the ringleader for this entire group that will produce more than 1,100 games this year, 850 of them on MLS Season Pass. “It’s one of the largest talent pools for a single-sports property in all of the world,” he said. “They are so passionate about soccer, and so willing to go the extra mile.”

They are bringing back many of the people you are familiar with. Taylor Twellman remains the analyst on the biggest games, working with Jake Zivin and Andrew Wiebe. This broadcast team will do the new and enhanced Sunday Night Soccer matches. Kevin Egan returns as the host of MLS 360. The same for Kaylyn Kyle with Countdown and Antonella Gonzalez on La Previa.
