Monterrey coach Victor Vucetich believes a win over Chelsea FC in tomorrow’s FIFA Club World Cup semifinal would be the greatest ever win for a Mexican club, but he admitshis team will struggle to keep European champion from scoring. Chelsea has scored nine goals in its last two games following a difficult start for interim coach Rafael Benitez.
“I’m sure Chelsea will score goals tomorrow,” Vucetich told reporters on Wednesday. “They are a strong, physical side and technically skilful. We have great respect for them, theyare one of the top teams in the world and in the Premier League but we have talent too.” Monterrey, the reigning CONCACAF Champions League champion, defeated South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai 3-1 inthe quarterfinals over the weekend.
“We passed the first step and we are even more motivated for the next game and to show our strengths.” He said beating Chelsea would be thebiggest ever result for a Mexican club, but said he was confident of beating Benitez’s men. “Benitez is a big coach and very capable manager with experience of big matches. We are aware ofhis tactics and are confident of dealing with Chelsea.” Benitez won the 2010 Club World Cup when he was coach of Inter Milan.
The winner of tomorrow’s semifinal will playSouth American champion Corinthians, which earlier today beat African champion Al Ahly 1-0 to advance to Sunday’s final.
