Good afternoon! USMNT players are in for a very busy summer. They could be with the senior team for the Copa America for as long as almost seven weeks, depending on how far the team gets in the tournament, which ends with the final on July 14. In a media call this morning, Coach Gregg Berhalter left open the possibility that some players – likely no more than a couple – could play in both the Copa America and Olympics, which begin July 24.

U.S. national team head coach Gregg Berhalter has named 27 players for the June training camp ahead of friendlies against Colombia and Brazil.

Twenty-one of the 23 players on the roster were on the team that won a third straight Concacaf Nations League in March.

The changes are in goal where Sean Johnson, a 2022 World Cup backup, has replaced Drake Callender, and at right back, where Shaq Moore, another 2022 World Cup veteran, has been recalled in place of injured Sergino Dest, who will be sidelined until 2025.

Additions to the expanded June roster are Luca de la Torre and Josh Sargent, both on the initial roster for the 2024 Nations League but replaced due to injuries, and center back Cameron Carter-Vickers, withheld in March because of injury issues, and midfielder Timmy Tillman, called up for the first time during the 2024 January camp.

The camp squad consists of 23 players based in Europe and four playing in MLS.

• Copa America roster: The roster for this summer’s Copa America has been expanded by Conmebol from 23 to 26 players and the deadline to submit the roster has been pushed back from June 12 to June 15.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: GREGG BERHALTER

“We have to figure out the right back situation and there’s a couple different options we can look at. We have like-for-like options with Joe Scally and Shaq Moore. We have a winger who can play there with Timothy Weah. We have central midfielders who can play there with Weston McKennie and Yunus Musah. And then we have center backs that we’re looking at who can play there. We have the ability in this training camp to have options and to have flexibility. Some of it may revolve around a back three, but the first objective is to see how we’re going to fill that right back position because we’ll be missing Sergino.”
