[AMERICANS ABROAD] Juan Pablo Ocegueda, who excelled at left back for the USA during the recent Concacaf Under-20Championship, finds himself in limbo following his loan move from Tigres to Mexican rival Chivas de Guadalajara.
Now that he committed to the USA, Chivas’ rules prevent him fromrepresenting the first team. But plans to ship him to Chivas USA fell through because, according to Dennis Te Klose, sporting director for the two clubs, MLSplayer movement rules would have required Ocegueda be assigned through a lottery rather than via a straight transfer.
Since returning from the U-20 qualifying in Puebla, Ocegueda has beentraining with the Chivas U-20 team.
Te Klose had brought Ocegueda from West Coast FC to Tigres, where he headed its youth program, at the age of 15.
Wow… what terrible rule for a club to have. Penalized for committing to play for his country.
He’s not even one of those evil gringos. Maybe Chivas-Guadalajara will join the 21st century?
nope chivas identity will not change..and will not make an exception…if juan wants to play for usa, that makes him american in other words “foreign player”…then chivas is not the team for him…there are other 17 teams for him…
I think you guys are a little more worried than Ocegueda is right now. I am pretty sure he was consulted about all this before making the move to Chivas. And I am taking a big guess here, but I am sure he complied.
I think he was already an American when they scooped him from West coast FC. Why is he now more of an American just because he plays for the U20’S. The logic behind this clubs extreme prejudice in the face of the “worlds” soccer community is irresponsible and sad. The ideology behind these two clubs are starting to blur. The club and its fans have too much pride. They need a heaping plate of crow. I wonder if the owner of these clubs has Mein Kampf on his shelf behind his fat desk? Oh and when you do like everyone else and cry about the past.. .try to remember that old saying that always rings true. -Two wrongs, do not make a right.
David, Hop[efully the MLS will finally understand what style of play it’s greatest fans, players, future stars love to play. Hopefully they can understand that soccer is well engraved culturally as a way of life. These players are between a rock and a hard place. The style they love and the country they were born in. How can it be possible that we still dont have a bonafide Hispanic soccer star in USA yet??
Once MLS gets it they will have the fans, money, keep their best players and have their first soccer world class player.
