[AMERICANS ABROAD] Oguchi Onyewu scored his first goal for Sporting in its 3-2 win at last-place Rio Ave, a header off acorner kick to break a 2-2 tie in the second half.

After beginning the season on the bench following his move on a free transfer from AC Milan, Onyewu has starting his third straight gamefor Sporting.

Onyewu’s goal on a header off a corner kick in the 74th minute rescued Sporting, which led 2-0 after three minutes but gave up goals in the 49th and 63rd minutes to Rio Ave.

A minute after Onyewu’s goal, Rio Ave’sJean Sandy was sent off for picking up his second yellow card. Onyewu was one of 10 other players to receive cautions.

The win was only the secondfor Sporting, which is now in sixth place, five points behind its main rivals, Porto and Benfica.
