• Represented by its U-19 national team, the USA lost to host Chile, 2-1, in the semifinals of the women’s soccer competition at the 2023 Pan-American Games in Vina del Mar. The hosts, playing with their full national team, opened up a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by 33-year-old Karen Araya and 30-year-old Yanara Aedo. The lone U.S. goal was scored by 17-year-old Emeri Adames. On Friday, Chile will face Mexico (also represented by its full national team) in Friday’s gold-medal game in Valparaiso while the USA will play Argentina for the bronze.
