Manchester City is suffering “a crisis of confidence” coach Manuel Pellegrini said after the 2-1 loss at home to CSKA Moscow on Wednesday. The English champ now has just twopoints from its first four games in the UEFA Champions League, and could still be eliminated even if it wins its final group games against Bayern Munich and AS Roma, respectively. And, to make mattersworse, Pellegrini will be without midfielders Yaya Toure and Fernandinho against Bayern later this month after they were both sent off in the second half against CSKA.
“It is acrisis of confidence and we must find out why by talking to the players every day,” Pellegrini said after the game. “We must try to find out what happens with this team in the Champions League. Theseplayers are important players so I don’t understand why they cannot play in the Champions League.”
The Chilean noted that his team is not mathematically out of the running in Group E, asboth Roma and CSKA have just two more points than his team, while Bayern has already won the group. “You can never imagine you are out when the maths says you are still in,” he said. “Wemust try to work hard and get back to our normal style of play.”
