The Portuguese soccer federation (FPF) on Tuesday appointed former Greece coach Fernando Santos as head coach. Santos led the Greeks to the last 16 of last summer’s World Cup inBrazil, where they lost on penalties to Costa Rica. The 59-year-old replaces Paulo Bento in the wake of Portugal’s disastrous start to Euro 2016 qualifying, which began with a1-0 loss to Albania. Portugal’s next qualifier is against Denmark on Oct 14.
