U.S. national team striker Jozy Altidore will be in the Sunderland squad for the club’s Premier League opener at West Brom on Saturday, manager Gus Poyet said on Tuesday.Altidore, 24, suffered a hamstring injury during the USA’s opening World Cup game against Ghana in June, and had been out of action until making his comeback as a second-half sub in the BlackCats’ 2-0 win against Udinese on Saturday.
“Jozy is coming along well,” Poyet told the club’s official Web site. “We were thinking he could feature for 45 to 30 minutes [againstUdinese], the idea was to get him to play a part in case we need him in any games. I’m sure he will work a little bit more this week and a full week of proper training will help him be part of thesquad for [Saturday].”
Altidore scored just one goal in 31 Premier League appearances last season.
