Angel Di Maria produced a devastating display as Argentina thumped world champion Germany 4-2 in a rematch of July’s World Cup final. The Manchester United winger, who missed the finalthrough injury, scored one and assisted three as Argentina’s front-line ran riot over Joachim Low’s makeshift defense, which was missing several World Cup stars either throughinjury or retirement.

The media in Argentina painted the victory as “revenge” while the German daily Bild hit back with “Dear Argentines, we’ll give you that win. We anyhowwon the important match.”

In Buenos Aires, Ole led with the headline “Tata has an angel”, referring both to Argentina’s new head coach, Gerardo “Tata”Martino and Di Maria himself, “who put on a personal show in Dusseldorf.”

In Madrid, Di Maria’s former home, AS described his performance as “stratospheric,”and it said his display had been due to anger at missing both the World Cup final and being shown the door by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
