[TELEVISION GUIDE] For the first time, English Premier League matches will air on U.S. broadcast television as Fox will package three EPL matches with NFL games
and then a live match on Super Bowl Sunday next February.
“Soccer is moving into the mainstream of American sports,” said Fox Soccer General Manager David Nathanson. “It only makes sense for the Fox Network to pick up Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool on Sundays and expose them to a broader
audience.”
The three fall dates:
-- The action kicks off Sept. 18 when Manchester United and Chelsea meet for the first time this Premier League season.
--
Oct. 2 has Arsenal taking on Tottenham in their North London derby.
-- Chelsea returns to the network on Nov. 20 to battle Liverpool.
(The fall games are tape-delayed and
will be shown at either 2-4 p.m. ET or 4:30-6:30 p.m. ET, depending on Fox’s NFL schedule. They will air live and earlier in the day on Fox Soccer. NFL assignments are determined two
weeks out.)
Fox will air a live EPL match early on Feb. 5, Super Bowl Sunday, a time slot that drew record ratings in 2010 and 2011.
