Following Real Madrid’s 2-0 loss at home Saturday night to Barcelona that left the Catalan club in the lead in La Liga with seven games to play, Chilean ManuelPellegrini looks to be the latest Real coaching casualty.
Real Madrid spent $350 million on new talent but it will almost surely finish without a trophy following exits from theCopa del Rey (where it lost to a third division team) and Champions League (where it again fell in the round of 16).
“I am not the one who has to talk about me staying on or about myqualities or what I have done,” said Pellegrini, Real’s ninth coach since 2003. “I have mixed feelings of frustration and helplessness. Barcelona wasn’t the team it has been in the past but it got thegoal and it made it stronger.”
