The AP reports that German prosecutors are examining whether there are grounds to open an investigation into allegations that Germany’s bidding committee used a slush fund to helpsecure the 2006 World Cup. According to news agency dpa, Nadja Niesen, a spokeswoman for prosecutors in Frankfurt, said fraud, breach of trust or corruption are among the offenses thatmight be investigated, as the organization has “initiated a monitoring process” with regard to the allegations inside Spiegel’s report that $6 million was used to buy the votes offour Asian representatives on FIFA’s executive committee.
