Miguel Herrera on Wednesday signed a new contract with Mexico’s soccer federation (FMF) that will take him through the 2018 World Cup as head coach of the national team. The 46-year-oldformer Club America coach said the extension is the best contract of his managerial career and stressed that his primary objective is to qualify Mexico for Russia 2018. However, he added: “Thecoming year there are two important events, the Copa America, which will be difficult to win, but we’ll take a competitive team, and the Gold Cup, which we are obliged (to win).”
