Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers insists that he has no regrets over signing former AC Milan forward Mario Balotelli on transfer deadline day even though the Italian has underwhelmedsince his 16 million pound ($25 million) move. However, the Northern Irishman was quick to add that he felt he had no other choice:
“In the summer, we had Rickie Lambert andFabio Borini was looking as though 100 percent he was gone. Obviously Daniel [Sturridge] has shown in his career so far that he gets injuries. So it would be unfair to leave RickieLambert, a 32-year-old, as the only striker we had. I felt this [Balotelli] was a risk we needed to take and as a group we couldn’t afford not to at the time.” He added: “It wasobviously late on and we need to have someone in. It’s something that we can’t regret. I made it clear at the beginning it was a calculated one and that is why he probably cost the moneythat he did.”
Meanwhile, several reports in England this week have claimed that Balotelli will be on his way out of Anfield at the end of the season.
