[USA-MEXICO] U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann added Robbie Rogers andZach Loyd to to the roster for Wednesday’s match against Mexico at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Rogers replaces Maurice Edu, who suffered a left calf strain in the first half of Rangers friendly against Chelsea on Saturday, and Loyd replaces Timothy Chandler, who will remain in Germany with Nuremberg.

Rogers, who plays for the Columbu s Crew, was on the U.S. roster for the 2011 Gold Cup, while Loyd, in just his secondseason with FC Dallas, made his international debut on Jan. 22 against Chile.

  1. Why? Hasn’t Rogers had enough opportunities to show that he’s not national team material?

  2. What is the story with Chandler? I hope we don’t lose this kid. In the brief appearences I saw, he appeared to be a bright spot for our team.

  3. Robbie Rogers? Are you kidding me? He has speed and that is it. He does not have the brains or skill to be an international player. Otherwise he would have been signed by a European club. Speed does you no good if you do not have the brains to play the game at a higher level. (ie. see eddie johnson).Timmy Chandler is coming off an injury and getting ready for the start of the season in the Bundisleague. Nuremburg will be expanding his role this season and don’t want to risk a reinjury so they have advised him to stay in Germany. That was the story for the Gold Cup as well.We havn’t lost him, he will be on the roster for qualifying.

  4. I will have to note that this is a weak roster, especially on defense and outside midfield. This is not Klinsmann’s fault as players are just no available when leagues are just beginning for non qualifying matches. With that said, i think Klinsmann is going to access players for himself on the pitch. That is why you see Rogers there (by default) and Ricardo Clark, and even M. Bradley. You will see most all the players ont he pitch for this one. It doesn’t matter that it is Mexico. This is the beginning of tryouts for USMNT world cup roster.

  7. I’m not sure why this friendly with Mexico was even scheduled other than to be a fundraiser opportunity for the FMF.
