In a statement, St. Louis FC chief financial officer Tom Strunk said COVID-19’sfinancial impact made it “too difficult to continue operations.”

The move comes a year after MLS announced it would add an expansion team in St. Louis. St. Louis City SC was slated tobegin play in 2022 but its launch was pushed back a year. Saint Louis FC CEO Jim Kavanaugh is one of the owners of the new MLS team.

STLFC made the USL playoffs once in fiveseasons. Its current record is 4-3-2 in the restructured USL Championship.

It plays at West Community Stadium — the former Soccer Park that was home to numerous U.S. internationals inthe 1980s — in Fenton. Current restrictions in St. Louis County prevent STLFC from playing before fans.
