• Defending champion Clemson falls to UCLA. The Bruins rallied to beat the No. 6 Tigers, 2-1, on goals by Andre Ochoa and Tucker Lepley. UCLA advanced to the third round for the first time since finishing second in 2014.
• Seven of 16 seeds fall. Other upsets were Marshall (shootout win over No. 4 Virginia), Portland (2-0 over No. 8 Oregon State), Western Michigan (1-0 over No. 9 Lipscomb), Vermont (3-2 over No. 11 SMU) and Pitt (3-0 over No. 16 Akron).
