Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal confirmed that defender Chris Smalling has signed a new contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2019. The center-back joined Unitedfor 10.5 million pounds ($15.7 million) from Fulham in 2010 and has gone on to make 147 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals, including four this season. He has enjoyed a strong center-backpairing with Phil Jones in recent wins against Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City.
