1.SEATTLE (16-7-3), 2.
The Sounders gave themselves some anxious moments by sitting on a 4-0 halftime lead and conceding a pair of goals that made the final score of their 4-2 defeat of Chivas USAcloser than it should have been. Obafemi Martins and Andy Rose each scored twice and midfielder Brad Evans tied an MLS record by registering three assists in the first half. Offsince that victory Wednesday — its third win in a row — Seattle should be well-rested when it hosts Real Salt Lake in a much-anticipated Friday night affair.

2. LA GALAXY (14-5-7),3.
If special awards were mandated for second-year players, Gyasi Zardes would be right at the top of the list. The Homegrown signing moved into a tie for the team lead in goals withRobbie Keane (who was away on international duty) by scoring his 13th and 14th of the season in a 6-0 pummeling of Colorado that is the Galaxy’s fifth straight win. BaggioHusidic also scored twice during the run of play and Landon Donovan converted two penalties as the Galaxy took apart the Rapids, who went down to 10 men in the first minute. Donovannotched two more assists and is within four of Steve Ralston’s all-time MLS record of 135. Armbands reading “Luca” were worn by players and coaches in honor of defenderA.J. DeLaGarza’s infant son, who died Thursday afternoon.

3. D.C. UNITED (14-8-5), 4.
A big save by keeper Bill Hamid, whose improved positioning anddecision-making this season is an important facet of United’s success, helped United grind out a 0-0 tie in Vancouver. Hamid stoned Darren Mattocks in a point-blank situation en route tohis eighth shutout of the season and third in the last four games. Fabian Espindola had two good chances to break the deadlock but his long-distance effort was tipped over the bar and aclose-range shot went high. The busy schedule — six league and Concacaf games in 22 days  – continues Wednesday at Red Bull Arena, just a week and a half after United’s 2-0 victoryover the Red Bulls at RFK.
