The Seattle Sounders jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 37 minutes and held on for a 3-2 victory at Philadelphia in the completion of their MLS match called after six minutes on March 9 due to bad weather.

Obed Vargas, 18, scored his first pro goal and drew a penalty kick converted by Raul Ruidiaz on a Panenka. The Peruvian’s opening goal came when he picked up a loose ball five yards inside the Union’s half and beat keeper Oliver Semmle with a driving shot.

The Sounders held on for only their second win in nine games in what Coach Brian Schmetzer described as a “monster performance.”

“We need all three goals to push this over the line,” he added.
