African soccer never ceases to surprise. The latest: the decision by the Benin soccer federation to disband the national team and fire the entire coaching staff after the Squirrels’ first-roundexit at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. The reason: lack of patriotism.

Beninese star Razak Omotoyossi blames the federation for mismanagement. “Weare not indisciplined players and they just want to tarnish our image,” Omotoyossi said. “The truth is the players were fighting for their rights.”

Omotoyossi says players were given thewrong jerseys and allowances and bonuses were not paid on time. Benin finished with one tie and two losses.
