[NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS] The Sting tied Colorado Rush with its ninth national girls title when the Dallas club’s U-15s beat Scorpions Elite, 1-0, inSaturday’s final at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships in Overland Park, Kan.
Under-19 Girls
LonestarsRed (TX-S) 1, Eclipse Select (IL) 1, PK 4-2
Lonestars won its first national girls title — and the first for South Texas — with a shootout win over Eclipse Select, which was denied asixth girls title with narrow losses in both the U-19 and and U-18 finals.
Lonestars shut down Mary Kubiuk, which entered the game with five goalson the week.
Karissa Miller put Eclipse ahead in the 12th minute, but Lonestars’ Jessica Fuston equalized19 minutes later.

So Cal Blues earned first place in the U.S. Youth Soccer National League this season and completed the double with the win over Syosset.
Lauren Bohaboy scored in the 48th minute to give Blues club its third national title.

The Dallas area club won its first boys title in 2008 but had never won a girls title.

Scorpions’ Katelyn Mountjoy had a dangerous ball in the 39th that struck thecrossbar, but teammate McKenzie Meehan, who had six goals in group play, was shut down.

Cal North won the under-14 girls title for the third year in a row when MVLA prevailed in a shootout.
The hero for MVLA waskeeper Jacquelyn Caginia, who saved the first Sting kick and ultimately scoring the game winner for the 5-3 advantage.
