The United States national team ended the October window in the best shape it has been since Mauricio Pochettino was hired in 2024.

That’s the good news. The bad news, however, is that the team is not where it needs to be to make a long run at the 2026 World Cup. The open question now becomes whether the team can get to where it wants to be in time. With only two more international windows (November and March) remaining before the World Cup roster deadline, it is going to be close.

The USA ended this window without a loss, which is a significant improvement. Against Ecuador, the it fell behind on a well-orchestrated counterattack capped by an Enner Valencia goal. Then in the second half, the USA dominated, getting an equalizer from Folarin Balogun. The game ended 1-1 but Ecuador was lucky to hang on.

Against Australia, the USA was lackluster at the start and fell behind when it lost focus defending a throw-in. Oddly enough, it came to life when its best player, Christian Pulisic, was forced out in the 31st minute with a leg injury. Following that, the USA raised its level with improved intensity and physicality. Haji Wright scored goals in either half with outstanding finishes that were both assisted by Cristian Roldan
