• New York/New Jersey: A fan fest will be open for all 104 games of the 2026 World Cup at Liberty State Park in Jersey City. “That is going to be the one fan fest, I believe, across the country that is going to be up and running for all games of the World Cup as opposed to just the games that are happening in our region,” Tammy Murphy, wife of New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and chair of the New York/New Jersey host committee, told AP. Murphy’s appointment was announced this week along with the hiring of Alex Lasry, a former Milwaukee Bucks executive and son of former Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry, as CEO of the host committee.
• SF Bay Area: An agreement was reached to cover the cost on hosting six World Cup matches at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. The Santa Clara City Council approved the deal by a vote of 5-2. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the five who voted in favor of the agreement — known as the 49er Five — were swayed by the the 49ers’ pledge to pay to the projected $37 million deficit if the Bay Area Host Committee doesn’t raise the funds to pay for the event. The Santa Clara Stadium Authority owns Levi’s Stadium, though the 49ers manage its operation.
