[CONCACAF UNDER-17 CHAMPIONSHIP] Two years ago, the USA outscored its opponents, 38-0, but did not advance to the 2010 Under-17 Women’s World Cup after beingousted by Canada in a shootout in the semifinals of Concacaf qualifying. The Americans will get a chance for revenge when they play in the 2012 Concacaf Under-17 Championship that begins Thursday witha game against Bahamas at Guatemala City’s Estadio Cementos Progreso.
The U.S. U-17s are the favored, having compiled a 4-0-2 record in international matches while playing mostly againstolder competition. They have allowed just one goal so far this year, which came in a 1-1 draw with the England U-19s in March.
They will be shooting for one of three berths up for grabsfor the 2012 Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan.
(Only two berths — the semifinals were rewarded
