Miguel Gonzalez scored two second-half goals to lead the Colorado Springs Switchbacks to a 2-0 win over the Austin Aztex at Sand Creek Stadium for their sixthconsecutive victory and third consecutive shutout win. The win moved the Switchbacks even with Sacramento Republic atop the Western Conference.
The Switchbacks, who have the longestwinning streak in the USL, have outscored their opponents by an impressive 16-2 margin during the six-game streak. The match was played on a water-logged field after storms forced the kickoff back onehour.
In the Eastern Conference, the top-of-the-table clash between Rochester and Charleston ended in a 0-0 tie.
Rochester’s record-threatening defense stifled Charleston’sattacking ambitions Friday night at Blackbaud Stadium and held on for a scoreless draw that kept the first-place Rhinos five points clear of the second-place Battery.
The draw pushed theRhinos’ unbeaten start to 2015 to 15 matches (9-0-6), while Charleston’s home unbeaten streak extended to 19 matches over two seasons. Rochester remains five points ahead of Charleston. Its lead inthe overall standings is three points over Colorado Springs and Sacramento.
