Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal on Monday bemoaned the packed English Premier League schedule over the holiday season, while confirming that Angel Di Mariawill not make the trip to Stoke City on Tuesday.
“I am not happy — but I cannot change it — because I don’t think it is good for the players that they play within two days of a (previous)match — two matches in two days,” the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach said. “In December it shall be like that. We also have family. I have a wife and kids, and grandchildren, and Icannot see them this Christmas. But I want to work in the Premier League, so I have to adapt, and I shall adapt. But I don’t think it is good. It is not good for the players, nor for the family.”
Van Gaal is also facing a lengthy injury list, which was compounded by the addition of Di Maria during the 3-0 win against Hull City on Saturday, although it is unclear how long United’srecord signing will be out for. Captain Wayne Rooney also limped off late the field late on Saturday, but the Dutchman said he should be fit for Tuesday’s game.
