Louis van Gaal indicated that if Manchester United keeps winning and improving, the Red Devils would soon be back in contention for the Premier League title. The storied club has risen tothird-place in recent weeks on the back of six consecutive wins and currently trails leader Chelsea by eight points, following Sunday’s 3-0 win at Old Trafford against hated rival Liverpool.

After the game, the Dutchman said, “We have won six matches in a row which is fantastic but we have to improve our playing style and I am saying that nearly every week. Only after the matchesagainst QPR and Hull I have said: ‘OK, we are dominating the game 90 minutes’.” He added: “We could have dominated the game 90 minutes today but we didn’t do that. Wegave unnecessary balls away in the second half. We have to improve but we are very pleased because we know what it is to win against Liverpool. Everybody is happy. My cook is happy, my wife is happyand I am happy.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers, who made several changes to his regular lineup, said: “It is pretty clear we are searching to find solutions in thegame to get wins. The players are working incredibly hard. There is not a lack of effort. The attitude was first class but when you are not winning as consistently the feelings are a little bitdifferent, but you want to get wins and concentrate on your performances.” Liverpool is currently 10th, seven points adrift of West Ham United in the fourth and final UEFA Champions Leagueslot.
