Michael van Praag, president of the Dutch soccer association (KNVB), has withdrawn from the FIFA presidential election later this month and has instead pledged his support for PrinceAli Bin Al Hussein of Jordan. Portuguese soccer star Luis Figo also withdrew, leaving the Princeton-educated Prince Ali as the only challenge toincumbent Sepp Blatter. Blatter, 79, is runaway favorite to secure a fifth mandate at the election in Zurich on May 29, where each of FIFA’s 209 member associations holds one vote.
