Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy said he and his teammates were “fired up” to prove their critics wrong after they were accused of undercutting fired manager Claudio Ranieiri. The Englandinternational scored twice — his first league goals since December — as the Foxes defeated Liverpool, 3-1, in their first game since Ranieiri’s dismissal.

“There has been a lot ofunfair stuff written and you’ve seen a reaction from everyone,” Vardy said after Leicester’s first EPL win in 2017. “It definitely got us fired up in a good way to put a reaction onthe pitch. The mood is a bit of joy and relief. We deserved it and now we have to make sure we keep the continuity going and it will drag us away from the position we’re in.”
