Cristiano Ronaldo grew up on the Portuguese island of Madeira, where his father worked as a gardener and his mother as cook. At age 12 they allowed him to leave for the mainlandto join Sporting’s youth academy in Lisbon. We found a short clip of the teenage Ronaldo, off and on the field with Sporting, for which he debuted at age 17.
