The USA had two wins in 19 World Cup qualifying clashes with Mexico before beating El Tri, 2-0, in Columbus, Ohio, on Feb. 28, 2001. Coach Bruce Arena‘s team won thanks goals byJosh Wolff and Earnie Stewart, who was assisted by Wolff. It was the first of four “Dos a Cero” U.S. wins in Columbus, site of Friday’s USA-Mexico clash in Hexagonalopener.
