Bobby Wood scored in his second straight game for Hamburg, collecting what would be the decisive goal in HSV’s 2-1 win over Schalke 04 that temporarily moved it out of the automatic drop zoneinto 16th place in the German Bundesliga.

Wood took a ball just inside the Schalke half and raced down the right wing into the penalty area, cutting to his left and firing a left-footedshot past keeper Ralf Faehrmann to make it 2-0 in the 82nd minute. The goal was Wood’s fourth league goal for Hamburg after scoring in its first two games.

Timmy Chandler, who signed a new contract with Eintracht Frankfurt through the2019-20 season, started in Eintracht’s 3-0 win that moved it into third place, two points ahead of Borussia Dortmund, which could only tie Augsburg, 1-1, and unbeaten Hoffenheim and Hertha Berlin, which both play on Wednesday.

Christian Pulisic started for Dortmund, finishing the fall campaign with eight starts and 12 appearances in 16 games.
