Honduras, the USA’s opponent on Sunday for a spot in Tokyo Games, played to a convenient 1-1 tie with Canada that advanced both teams to destroy the hopes of El Salvador, which beat Haiti, 2-1, thanks two a pair of goals by 23-year-old Southern Californian Josh Perez. Canada’s Derek Cornelius opened the scoring in its Group B finale in the 28th minute. Denil Maldonado scored two minutes later for Honduras, which faces host Mexico on Sunday for Concacaf’s other Olympic entry.
