You can’t turn on the soccer news these days without hearing about Saudi Arabia. Wow, look – there’s both the Madrid derby and El Clasico being played in … the Saudi capital Riyadh! And here’s the plan for a super-stadium for 45,000 spectators being built on top of a cliff with all kinds of buzzers, bells and whistles. It will be the showpiece for the 2034 World Cup (Saudi Arabia is the only candidate to host), pretty much a personal gift to the Middle Eastern nation courtesy of soccer’s supreme leader, the wise and enlightened Gianni Infantino.
