“For the U.S. national team players, getting just a $2,000 bonus would be an insult. But for players like me who don’t make money playing soccer for their country, that $2,000 is a hugehelp.”

Raquel Rodriguez, who led Penn State to the 2015 NCAA Division I title and now plays for the NWSL’s Sky Blue FC, on the $2,000 bonus she and her Costa Ricateammates were supposed to get from reaching the 2015 Women’s World Cup but have yet to see. (New York Times)

  1. It is indeed a VERY SAD commentary for those countries, such as Costa Rica, to promise their players bonuses for achieving a large degree of greatness for their country and then not come through. And then there’s the talk about corruption at national futbol-soccer federations, going all they way to the top in FIFA! We are indeed very fortunate thus far not to stoop so damned low and not pay our professional athletes in whatever sport. Mucha y buena suerte Raquel Rodriguez and the rest of the CR WNT!
