• Houston: A project initially launched to support local businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic will become a permanent fixture for the World Cup. Downtown Houston+ will permanently turn a stretch of Main Street into a pedestrian promenade. To the initial seven blocks will be added four more taking the promenade with restaurants and bars along the walkway from Dallas Street to Allen’s Landing. Cost of the redevelopment project: $12 million.

• Kansas City: KC2026 Transportation Director Jason Sims told KSHB 40 that more than 200 buses will be needed for the World Cup. Kansas City doesn’t have a light rail system to Arrowhead Stadium, so park and ride and ride share drop-offs need to be set up to alleviate traffic.

• New York/New Jersey: The state of New Jersey’s Transportation Department has issued a grant of $25 million to fund a new pedestrian bridge at MetLife Stadium for the World Cup. NorthJersey.com reported that the new bridge will be parallel to the existing pedestrian bridge, which 15,000 people use during events but which won’t meet the demand of World Cup fans arriving at the stadium.
