Freddy Adu didn’t suit up for Wednesday’s USA-Mexico friendly, but he should be seeing plenty of action soon in Philadelphia.

According tomultiple sources, the press conference the Philadelphia Union called for Friday is to announce the acquisition of the 22-year-old Adu that will reunite him with Union coach Peter Nowak, his coach with D.C. United early in his career and on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team.

Adu’s move ends four years wandering Europe in search of a club that wantedhim. He had one year left on his contract with Portuguese club Benfica at which he hasn’t played since the 2007-08 season.

“The important thing is that we try shuffle the front linea little bit,” said Nowak on Thursday about the impending move. “Jack [McInerney] and [Velkjo] Paunovic dida very good job the last few games, but that’s one area we need some cover. The rest, we can figure out, but now we’re looking to score more goals.”

Adu had been rumoredto be headed to Chivas USA, but owner Jorge Vergara is reported to have nixed the deal.
