Alyssa Thompson‘s first Women’s Super League goal for Chelsea was a spectacular one, but the Blues had to settle for a 1-1 tie with Arsenal in the battle of London powerhouses that drew 56,537 fans at the Emirates Stadium.

Thompson, who arrived from Angel City FC on a $1.3 million transfer fee two months ago, chipped Johanna Rytting Kaneryd‘s layoff from one side of the penalty area into the far side of the goal over Arsenal’s Daphne van Domselaar in the ninth minute. It was not until the 87th minute that former UNC star Alessia Russo scored the equalizer for Arsenal.
