Barcelona on Tuesday confirmed that Andres Iniesta would take over as club captain following the departure of Xavi Hernandez to Qatari club Al-Sadd. Iniesta, who had served as Xavi’sdeputy in recent years, was picked for the role by his teammates, with Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets coming second and third, respectively, in the voting, while JavierMascherano was fourth. The 2015-16 campaign will be Iniesta’s 13th with the Blaugrana first team. “It’s very beautiful, especially for those of us that have been at Barca for so long. To becaptain of the first team is something truly special,” Iniesta told El Mundo Deportivo.
